“I would best describe the culture as being a big family. It is never a single person or
organization
that brings greatness to the district but rather incorporates every single person. Our
district has
shown love and support to our community just as the community has shown to us. The thing that
makes
me
enjoy working in our district is the sense of family that I feel. It reminds me of my very own
Hispanic culture, bringing everyone together and making everyone feel welcomed. I feel that I
can
express my own style of teaching in a manner that is not judged, but rather encouraged and
shared to
further achieve excellence. Within my district, I have formed long and meaningful
relationships that
never fade, despite the changes and challenges that have come and will continue to come. I am
proud
to
be a product of this district’s educational system and am fortunate to be able to give back to
a
system that encourages and helps its students prosper.”
“I would describe our culture as family oriented. Neighbor looking out for a neighbor. It is
one of
the best benefits of working in a smaller school district. Our district is always striving to
improve. They are not stuck in/with the status quo, they are always looking forward to moving
forward. We have made leaps and bounds with our inclusion and equality for ALL students.
Putting
students first and meeting not just their academic needs but their emotional and mental needs
as
well.”
“Okeechobee county school district has a culture that focuses on collaboration, pride,
positive
relationships, and commitment to students’ success. The district constantly strives to make
learning
for students engaging and challenging, while also teaching students to persevere. There are
many
things that I enjoy about working for Okeechobee, but the one thing that stands out to me the
most,
is the opportunity to build relationships with the community, the students, and my colleagues.
I
moved to Okeechobee because it is a small town. Working in larger districts has its positives,
but I
knew that Okeechobee would allow me to build the everlasting relationships with my students
and
families.”
“This is my fourteenth year in the Okeechobee school district. I originally moved from
Wisconsin. I
love working in the Okeechobee school district because the people and community here are top
notch!
You won't find nicer or friendlier people anywhere. I also like that the school district truly
makes
the children a top priority! I love the small town atmosphere and I think it's a wonderful
place to
raise a family.”
“I came to Okeechobee in 2006 from New Hampshire specifically for a teaching job. I am still
here 13
years later because of the wonderful community that is here. The community offers many family
friendly activities and has been a great place to raise my family. I also love Okeechobee's
teaching
community. So many teachers are willing to work together and work towards the best for our
students.
I have many great relationships with teachers at my own school and at other schools in the
district
as well. I am proud to be a teacher in Okeechobee. Last, the district has continually offered
many
professional development opportunities that have made me a stronger teacher. I am grateful
that
Okeechobee was the place I chose when I was a new teacher.”
“We are small, but we are mighty! Overall the culture in our district is a positive one. Due
to the
fact that we are such a small district we have the advantage of knowing many other people
within the
district at a personal level. It's a great feeling to be greeted by the superintendent, Mr.
Kenworthy, by name because he knows who you are and what you do. What I enjoy the most about
Okeechobee is the people, both in colleagues and students. Our small community is made up of
some
truly remarkable individuals. Throughout my career, I have encountered some of the most
influential
teachers and leaders, and their passion for this job is transformative. Okeechobee has a
passion for
doing what is best for students and being proactive. I'm excited to see the direction that the
district is moving towards in order to be the best it can be!”
“Okeechobee County Schools has a positive environment that fosters collaboration and is
dedicated to
the growth and development of both students and educators. I enjoy collaborating with
educators who
are committed to the overall success of their students. Educators in Okeechobee truly put
students
first. I'm most excited about the opportunities provided by Okeechobee, for both personal and
professional growth. The community here is relentlessly supportive and presents many occasions
to
serve others.”
